Fighting to escape from his captors, Dr. Ransom finds himself in a flipped representation of his world, which deniably becomes his new home. Ransom’s introduction to this enthralling story. Simply trying to seek shelter from a storm, Ransom runs across an alarming sight. Quickly scuffling over to the scene, he spots a young man named Harry, who is being pushed into a house by two older men. As soon as Ransom steps on the scene, they unhand Harry. Eventually, dialog begins between Ransom and the owners of the house (Devine and Weston), unknowing of the consequences of meeting them. Invitingly deceiving Ransom into having a drink inside, Devine drugs him as well. Waking up in a dark and metal surrounding room, Ransom begins to realize a silver light shining through his room. “Ransom sat still and watched. He had never seen such a moon – so white, so blinding and so large. “Like a great football just outside the glass,” he thought, and then, a moment later, “No, it’s bigger than that.” By this time he was quite certain that something was seriously wrong with his eyes: no moon could possibly be the size of the thing he was seeing.” -Ch. 3. Petrified of the realization that he was in space, he was stuck inside a spaceship with kidnappers. Landing on a planet known as Malacandra, he ascertains that he will be given to the group of sorns as a sacrifice.
