I later revised the scavenger hunt and removed the question directing students to this artifact on the tour. Some students may still come across this artifact while browsing through the tour, but I did not direct students to visit this part of the museum. It was a difficult decision, but there were many other emotionally charged artifacts for the students to research that did not lead to such graphic

In “Exhibiting Dilemmas: Issues of Representation at the Smithsonian,” the primary concern of the article was the Smithsonian’s decision to exhibit set pieces from the TV show All in the Family. While this show was an award-winning, wildly popular, culturally revealing show, the opposition to its exhibition was enormous. Several reasons listed against the exhibition of Archie Bunke’s chair include the lack of importance to be exhibited in the Smithsonian and the racist nature of the show. To say that All in the Family is not significant American history is a false statement. Media represents who we are a culture and how we change.…

The Dallas Museum of Art was the complete opposite of what I imagined it to be like. Before attending the museum, I had very low expectations. When I thought of “art museum” I imagined dusty walls lined with undiverse and outdated art. I imagined a place old couples went to because they had nothing better to do with their time. A place where the past lingered and grew old as civilization quickly moved on and forgot about it.…
