Virtual Pharmacy Externship

This week we completed Virtual Pharmacy Externship for technicians and I did really enjoy the lesson. I found as we go on throughout each week, being a pharmacy tech is a really awesome job. Learning how to interact with all the staff of the pharmacy along with insurance representatives and physicians. Not being able to read what the physician wrote to order and trying to understand it. I am a registered pharmacy technician and have practised in community pharmacy for almost 6 years in the UK. The services that the pharmacy was providing were like where I had previously worked and all the standard operating procedures were similar. However, during the placement, I could see the pharmacist’s point of view rather than a technician and how the role of the pharmacist is different from that of a pharmacy technician. The pharmacist’s role was more focused on the clinical aspect, rather than just dispensing and ordering medication. I learnt how to recruit patients who are eligible for Medicines Use Review (MUR) and New Medicines Service (NMS).…

I have seen this happen in the past where a patient walked up to the counter and was told “I’m sorry I can’t help you with that” and the customer walked away without any answers to his questions.…
