He has always been there for me. Ever since I was a little girl my dad and I have had a special bond, I could talk to him about everything, and he listened, even to the things he really didn’t care to know. It was a goal of his to make sure my sister, my mom and I all felt loved no matter what he had to go through to make that happen. He always gave me the best advice, he would always tell me “there are three sides to every story, the first side, the second side and the truth,” something that I know he learned for himself while being a police officer.
My dad is very outgoing, the kind of person who has “never met a stranger” and when he does meet a stranger he is easily able to befriend them. He is very kind to people and treats everyone, older and younger than himself, with respect. I’ve never met anyone more selfless and caring than my dad, he would do anything to help someone else out, pay for their food, give up his seat, speak to someone who most people wouldn’t look twice at, the list goes on. I was taught to learn each side of every story before making a decision, ways to be safe when walking to and from the bus stop, I was also given a cell phone earlier than most kids my age because my parents wanted to be sure my sister and I could contact someone in case of an emergency. The only thing that bothered me about my dad being a police officer when I was younger was that it hurt to give him a hug when he was in uniform because of the belt he has to wear that holds his gun, handcuffs and other items. Once I asked my dad if he could take off the belt so I could hug him and he kindly told me “no” and explained to me that he has to wear it for
