For everyone, there is a constant battle between emotion and duty in their everyday life. Whether it’s duty in the sense of supporting a family or doing chores, no one wants to have to put forth the work. Aeneas, the main character in Virgil’s The Aeneid, felt a great sense of duty: he must listen to the gods and found a new empire. In my life, I feel I have a duty to do well in school. Being that my parents paid a lot of money to get me where I am now, I feel the responsibility to be successful with my endeavors here at UCI.
When following your duty, you’ll experience many hardships, both emotional and physical. In the book, Aeneas said, “I set sail for Italy - all against my will”. As you can tell by this quote,
