Title: Virals
Author: Kathy Reichs
Text type: Novel
Name: Sharon Louie

I admired the character Victoria Brennan in the novel Virals written by Kathy Reichs because Victoria was a brave character who showed she was willing to risk her life to save others “I’m getting Coop out of here”. Victoria reminds me there is always someone who will put others first rather than themselves in this world. An example of when Victoria was brave was when she decided to save Coop stuck in a ten feet pit by abseiling down with the vines as a harness knowing she could injure herself while doing so. “I dropped to my stomach, grabbed a ropey vine, swung my legs over the rim of the shaft, and braced my feet against the wall. Death-graipping the vine, I began to

They always stayed with each other and supported one and another “The four of us were crouched in azalea bushes bordering the alley behind the Charleston Public Library. It was 12:42am” Their relationship reminded me humans should stick together and support each other. An example of when the virals stayed together was when they were escaping people trying to kill them, Hiram was the last to leave the area but the rest of the viral didn’t leave him on the island. “‘You didn’t leave’ Hi gasped ‘No way, buddy’ said Shelton ‘never considered it’”. This relationship taught me an important moral, which was to always stick with one and another no matter what was happening to them. I felt the relationship shared by the virals is much needed in today’s society because there was so much happening around the world and there were people who needed support. For example, the Orlando shooting gathered many countries around the world to support Orlando after 49 people died in the nightclub. Many vigils were lit around the world to show their support even though most people did not know the victims personally. This current event linked to the idea of sticking together and supporting each

In the story To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee courage among many other things is a key theme in the story. There are two characters that comes to mind when I think of courage in the story and those people are Atticus Finch and Boo Radley. These two characters show tremendous courage throughout the story from saving the kids to defending Tom Robinson even though it puts their life and privacy at risk. The real courage here is putting the needs and wants of others in front of their own.…

Many people presume that courage is simply a person who accomplishes a grand feat rather than having the quality of mind that enables a person to face difficulty or danger without fear. However, true courage depends on the eyes of the beholder. Courage is many things. Slyly embodied in both reticent and vital characters, Harper Lee in To Kill a Mockingbird and Reginald Rose in 12 Angry Men both create a broad representation of courage. In both works of literature, the idea of courage that is being conveyed is the ability to do something that one knows is right or gracious, even though it is extremely difficult.…

The destruction of innocence is a huge topic in Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, the collage that I made portrays the book's theme immensely, while also showing the mistakes of small town civilians and the hushing of diversity within them. Courage is expressed by multiple characters in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. The photos that I have used in my collage show courage in such a powerful way, as Atticus facing the rabid dog. Although Atticus had a rifle, he's an elder guy, his eyesight is weakening and an ill dog is coming towards him.…

Before concluding this section, it is relevant to include a previous campaign that highlights the importance of social media coverage of widespread attention. Take for instance a wish from 5 year old Miles Scott, diagnosed with leukemia when he was only 18 months old, to save San Francisco as “Batkid”. This campaign was concentrated through Twitter, teamed up with Clever Girls Collective, a company that took on all the social media spread requirements, “with over 6,000 social media experts to spread the word for this event, the ball was really rolling before this event even took place.” (Grow 2014) Along with a clever hashtag #SFBatkid, Make-A-Wish reported 555,697 total tweets, 16,000 photos on Instagram, approximately 20,000 people attended the event, and Batkid was a topic of discussion in 117 countries around the world.…

Some concepts that I plan on addressing are the significance of strong and weak ties. Social media is a key example of weak ties. The mass amount of weak ties created over platforms like Twitter and Facebook promote widespread awareness and potential for mobilization. Additionally, I will compare and contrast the new and old repertoires in relation to Black Lives Matter. With controversial protests that have been both violent and peaceful the movement is an exemplar of both repertoires to a certain extent.…
