Virago found itself curious, the man should be dead, Lindsey had lost a critical amount of blood and pivotal bones and muscle required for basic motor functions had been compromised or simply broken. Yet he was still moving. The demon could-could keep lower beings alive and functional by will when their biological mechanics had failed if it choose to do so but it had no intention of doing so for this pitiful specimen. Something else was interfering. Then like Lindsey Virago heard the voice.
“It’s not Jeff”
“I don’t care”
Virago could feel the power, primordial power, something high above humans, above monsters, there was distance but it was closer to its own majesty.
There was an aura floating behind the human, it could not be seen by mortal eyes and even believed itself concealed from Vorago. This was the energy which had fled the holy places and places of worship, it was familiar

“Reveal yourself to me”
Wings unveiled against the darkness but nothing more.
This was a form of intimidation and it failed. It only emoted was the abyss anger.
“You do not want to test me, my power is greater than you, reveal thyself”
A hand touched Vorago’s foot and in a moment more human that it would ever confess, Virago was distracted. The broken man reached up and pulled itself to a vertical base using the vessel as support. The human smiled at the demon with a bloody grin and spoke his final words.
“Goodbye, brother….you fucker”
Then in something the demon did not expect. The man put a hand on its shoulder and arm around the neck.
Virago attention sprung back to the interloper, it looked over the shoulder of a man clinging to the vessel and released the being was gone. Fled.
Vorago’s teeth ground against each other in an overlay human display of anger before the blood-drenched arm punched through Lindsey’s abdomen.
It did not let him die, the abyss did not have the power to raise the dead but it caught Lindsey at the edge of death and forced him to
