Cello is one of the instruments in strings family. Some of the performance cello were used as a solo instrument or in the ensemble playing. Moreover, this instrument used bass clef but it can be read use treble clef or tenor clef. In Italian, the first name for cello is violoncello. The physical part of the cello same as violin and viola (Liu, 2011). The instruments having a place with the violin family created from the viola da braccio somewhere around 1520 and 1550 in Upper Italy. Cello included in the bass instruments at the earliest starting point. Besides, this instrument came in different sizes, tunings and conveyed different names which in Italy (1600) they called basso di viola da braccio or basso da braccio, in France is basse de …show more content…
First tuning is Bb1, F2, C3, G3, these tuning were continued to exist in England and France until center of the period of 18th century. After that, bass register continued with the fifth intervals of tuning for violin and viola. All of the arrangements of the part for strings were tuned in perfect 5th. This tuning is needs the large instrument, on that time cello is the only one bass instrument in strings family. However, to make it cello is the suitable tuning for the others string family, that instrument need to tuned an octave lower from the viola. Until today, cello used the tuning of C2–G2–D3–A3.

Bow
According to Liu (2011), first existence of bow is on 9th century and found in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Some of the proved shows that in the empires of Arabic and Byzantine, bow was regularly used in that time. Besides, bow was introduced by the Arabs to Europe. Famous Cellist
Francesco Alborea was born 1691, also known as Franciscello. His is the first cellist use thumb position. In 1714, Fraciscello were collaborate with Michael Corrette to produce basic cello playing principles called ““Theoretical and Practical Method for Learning How to Play the Cello Perfectly in a Short Time” (Liu, 2011).

Yo-Yo Ma
Yo-Yo Ma was on 1955. He received first cello lesson at age 4. He entered the Julliard School of Music at age 19. Moreover, he is one of the famous cellist in modern era because of his remarkable and incomparable talent. Moreover, he already played on solo performance with the most well known orchestra in the world. Also, became a recording artist for several pieces with Isaac Stern and Emanuel (Liu, 2011).
