Violet Play Analysis

I went to the University of South Florida to watch the musical play called Violet. This play was about a young girl who had suffered from a horrible accident, getting cut in the face by an ax. In the play Violet sets off to Tulsa in hopes that a preacher can heal her of her “ugliness”. The main purpose of theatre is to try and personalize whatever emotions the characters are going through. Emotions such as love, rejection, disappointment, betrayal, joy and suffering (Sporre, n.d.). Throughout the play the characters bring these emotions to life.
On the bus ride to Tulsa, Violet meets two young soldiers, Monty and Flick. Violet gets on the bus feeling very self-conscious and hesitant to open up to others in fear that they will make fun of her ugly scar. As Violet

Although her relationship with the two were very different they were also very similar. Flick was kind and sweet and thought Violet was beautiful just the way she was. From the start you could see there was an initial attraction between the two, however Violet was hesitant because he was African American. Monty on the other hand was very blunt about Violet’s appearance, constantly making fun of her, and hurting her feelings. Violet was constantly arguing with him. The more time Violet spent with Monty the more she got used to his sarcastic comments and eventually they became intimate. Flick felt a rush of rejection when he noticed that Violet had decided to settle for Monty and his rude comments, letting her know that all he wanted from her was a physical relationship. In turn Flick was ready to show Violet how beautiful she really was. Disappointment was unfortunately a reoccurring feeling for Violet. Growing up with a huge scar affected her self-esteem and allowed others to put her down. Her accident also changed the

This quotes illustrates the willing ignorance of the people with feeds. While most people got their feeds at a very young age, Violet did not get hers until she was seven, and her parents did not have them at all. This allowed her to think more independently and to care about current events. However, in several instances, this only causes other characters to either find her pretentious or, contradictorily,…

Originally in the play and on camera, Blanche and Stanley always had tension between them and they both seemed to always insult each other. Equally, Vivien Leigh “was quoted in print as having said that Brando was ‘a slob’, the tension between them on the set was rumored to be as ‘thick as New Orleans humidity’.” (73). Due to the tension between them, it was very easy for both of them to play their parts and show true emotion and tension.…

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a production of ''The Diviners,'' on Sunday, March the Nineteenth. The performance was put on by the Calhoun Community College theatre department. The play was staged in the black box theatre of The Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur, Alabama. It was an impressive performance especially when considering the size and arrangement of the stage. Even with such limitations, the cast were able to turn the stage into a window into prohibition era Indiana.…

In the book the Feed something terrible is happening to a girl named Violet. I have a theory that Violet is going insane. First the dad and also Titus said that because of the malfunction she may be going insane. Second she was saying she wants to do all these exiting things that she said randomly and in a way where she was acting strangely. Third she may be going insane because she got her feed when she was 6 not when she was a baby.…

We could hear him through the wall.” I can infer through this piece of evidence that Violet is sorrowful that her body is shutting down, so she asks Titus to tell Quendy, her father, that she’s sorry that she turned out this way. I can tell Quendy is Violet’s father because the next line states that her father was walking near Titus and Violet. Overall, you can see how this influenced her point of view about the society she lives in, which causes her to believe her brain is the reason why she’s shutting…

From the beginning of the play the audience is given the relationship between Junie B. and May when Junie B. calls her a “blabbermouth” and states that she is fed up with the constant tattle tailing. This tension between the two girls develops even more throughout the play when Junie B. pulls Mays name for the class’s secret Santa. The major dramatic question of the play would be “ Will May and Junie B. work out their problems?” The moment in the play where Junie B. and May argue is the inciting incident. This argument takes place in the beginning scene where Junie B. is calling May a Blabber mouth and, as usual, May tattle-tails on Junie B..…

Individual Diversity Involvement For my Individual Diversity Involvement assignment, I decided to see Arsenic and Old Lace at the Troy Civic Theater. The theater, run by the public, is a great example of a community coming together for entertainment and socialization. The performers ranged from a young age of nineteen to, what I venture to guess, around seventy-five. The show was the first play of their 50th season, and was chosen along with the other plays and musicals that will be shown during the season by a board of directors at the beginning of each season. The people involved with performances including the actors, directors, managers, and set members are not reimbursed for their time or performances.…

What makes a text so transitional into different forms of medium and why are some successful whereas others are not? It has to do with the content of the original narrative itself and the audience in which it is intended impact. Is the author able to change the description of a scene into a visual that will catch the attention of the viewing audience? The more a reader's expectations match up with the film the more successful the film will be.…

This past weekend I went to view Southern Miss’s Trojan Barbie. This play was an amazing display of the range of talent in Southern Miss’s theatre department. As I stepped through the doors of Tatum Theatre, I was transported back to Ancient Troy. Along with the set, the preshow soundtrack made me excited for the play that I was about to see. When the lights dimmed and the play began, soldiers walked out from the vomitoriums and surrounded audience members.…

I did not have much knowledge about theatre or drama except that I was aware that Western understanding of theatre originated from the Greeks and they had a tradition of wearing masks to identify with the characters, they are also assumed to be the inventors of tragedies and comedies. I was aware of the Greek tragedy Agamemnon because I read an excerpt of a play named ‘The Browning Version’ in which one of the characters, who is a student, remarks the play as ‘muck’. I read Macbeth by William Shakespeare in 9th grade and I also read a famous play in 10th grade titled ‘Death of a Salesman’ by Arthur Miller, it is known to be one of the most prominent plays in American literature and culture. Although, I have not seen many plays as much as I have read them. The recent play I watched was my high school production of Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’ which although was a small production, was still…

For this assignment, I watched a play called “The Insanity of Mary Girard” that was performed by a UT Theatre group, Round About Players, and was shown at the SAC black box. The play revolved around a young woman named Mary Girard who is thrown into an insane asylum by her wealthy husband, Stephen Girard. In the insane asylum, she is tormented by figments of her imagination and is told that she is not to leave the insane asylum for as long as she may live. In this particular adaptation, the cast consisted of 6 actors, 1 playing the role of Mary Girard and the other 5 doubling up on characters.…
