A big conflict today between adults and teens is whether or not violent video games will cause you to act out violently and make you more aggressive. There is no solid evidence or data that links violent acts to playing these violent video games. Parents and experts feel that some games are just too violent and they demand the government to regulate the sales of these games. However, I believe violent video games do not cause an increase in violence and the idea to regulate these games is caused by an exaggeration of the effects of violent video games. Others need to look more into this idea and find the benefits that these games can actually have. Violence and aggression are not developed through playing these games, they are inborn traits that you already have.
A violent video game itself can not cause somebody to act out violently. Persuasive evidence comes from an economic study published in January, which looked at violent criminal offenses in the weeks following the release of popular video games. There is a lot more evidence that shows that there is no correlation between the two than that there is. For example, Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association (2011), the US Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that California could not ban the sale of violent video games to minors. Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in the majority opinion that studies purporting to show a connection between violent video games and harmful effects on children "have been rejected by every court to consider them, and with good reason: They do not prove that violent videogames cause minors to act aggressively."
