The controversy of violent video games
Over thirty one billion dollars was spent on video games worldwide in two thousand and six (parks 8). Many people have a strong opinion on violent video games. In order to understand video game violence one must understand what society says about video games,arguments that say they cause violence, and arguments that say they do not cause violence.
Society has many views about violent video games. Some people believe that there is nothing wrong with violent video games and that they are just a form of entertainment. While others believe that the games are dangerous and cause aggressive behavior and violence. An example of this would be ninety eight percent of pediatricians in the U.S. state that too much violent media exposure causes childhood aggression (“Do”).
Violent video games have been around for a long time. Violent video games have been debated since nineteen seventy six when the game Death Race was released (“Do”). There are many violent video games on the market today. Some examples include God of War,Devil May Cry, and Dark Souls.

Some of these include 61.9% of boys play video games to relax (“Do”). Another view is 45.4% of boys who play video games do so to release their anger (“Do”). The majority of people who people who play video games do not commit antisocial acts (jenkins). Also about sixty percent of gamers who play frequently play with friends (Jenkins). Video games are even used for learning things. An example of this is that videogames can help students learn tactics and strategies in sports and other physical activities (Hayes,Silberman 68). Another example is that the military uses video games for learning skills such as squad based teamwork, flying,safety, and commanding units and multi-branch forces (Prensky 23).
