Violent Video Games Cause Aggression Research Paper

Imagine walking the halls of your school and you accidentally bump into a fellow student. You apologize and attempt to walk away, but the student physically grabs you and is about to punch you in your face. Your yelling and screaming for help had alarmed a teacher, and saves you from being pummeled. The principal later finds out that the student plays violent video games and thinks that this might be the cause of his aggression and influences him to release his anger through fighting. Violent video games cause more aggression in society and has been for a long time.

Over 50% of the most popular selling video games hold violence in them and 97% of teens that range from ages 12 to 17 play video games. 60% of middle school boys and 40% of middle school girls that play violent video games have caused a fight or beating. In addition to this multiple studies have shown that children that play violent video games are more likely to bully or cyber bully other children. 90% of pediatricians and 67% of parents also believe that violent video games cause more aggression in children.

Secondly, violent video games influence children and also influence young teens. Two male teens who live in Tennessee started shooting at random cars which also killed a driver. When questioned by the police they said that they got the idea from a game

For instance, Anders Breivik was responsible for the deaths of 77 people in Norway back in 2011. Breivik confessed to playing violent video games and using warfare II in preparation of the mass shooting. James Holmes is responsible for the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado back in 2012, Jared Lee Loughner caused the shooting in 2011 that harmed former Arizona representative Gabby Giffords. These people are all mass shooters and have all played violent video games at some point and time throughout their life.
