Violent Media And Aggression Analysis

With the recent rise in high school shootings, many are of the opinion that the cause is violent video games. The media industries are in opposition to such a claim because let’s be honest, they are more concerned with the revenues they can get, rather than the lasting impact that this media has on society, specifically our children. It is time to put all biases aside and realize that violence and aggression are intrinsically linked. There may not be definitive proof to show the impact of violent media and aggression, but there is something there. How does violent media affect aggression? Which violent media content has more impact on aggression?

Two ideas claim that media violence effects are detrimental to viewers. The first premise is to prove that violence and aggression are present in media content. The second is that being exposed to this violent content is significant in adults and children ( Krahe, 2013). Likewise, the public interest has been peaked with the recent increase in the high school shooting and how they are related to violent media content. Over the years violent media as becoming significantly popular and there has been significant evidence to support the claims that violent media consumption, in childhood and adolescence prove that violent media and aggression are correlated. (Anderson, et al, 2008). There is a causal risk factor that long-term exposure to violent media content has an effect on aggressive behavior, aggressive thoughts, and desensitization to violence.
