Considering the high volumes of media consumption today's youth may learn to see violence as an everyday part of life and an acceptable way to solve problems. Because violent media is presented over and over without terrible consequence, youth do not accurately understand the consequences of violent actions against others. Over time people are not disturbed by violent images they see and even get some enjoyment out of seeing things that normally would be disturbing. Psychologist L. Rowell Huesmann research shows that being aggressive as a child did not predict watching more violent TV as a teenager, suggesting that TV watching could be a cause and not a consequence as some would argue. Everyone has seen a child obsessed with Batman right? This kid wears Batman everything and wants to grow up to be just like Batman, Batman is his role model. Of course characters in the media influence children's attitudes, beliefs, and behavior. It is inarguably true that what a person spends a lot of time on is a great influence in their life and there are staggering statistics to show this truth. “The average child spends 28 hours a week watching tv and by the time the child reaches 18 years old he or she will have witnessed 200,000 acts of violence, including 16,000 murders. Up to 20 acts of violence per hour occur in children's programing. High levels of violent media content correlate with a 50% increase in reports of serious violent behavior.
