Violence Unending Cycle

Violence creates death, which leads to revenge, then back to violence. It’s an unending cycle of chaos that needs to be solved. Violence is all around us, in poverty stricken parts of Chicago, in cities all around the world, even in stories like Hamlet. But how does this unending cycle determine one’s control over their fate? With all these places that violence erupts from all have one thing in common. The more violence a person creates, they limit their ability to control their fate because violence leads to revenge and also leads to prison.

They can control their fate once again by two simple things, forgiveness and reconciliation. With these, enemies can become friends, families of victims can be happy again, there can be peace between good and bad. Forgiveness is everywhere. In Talk of the Nation, a man by the name of Matthew calls in talking about his mother was killed by a drunk driver. He discusses how he wanted to meet with him and said, “And I wanted to forgive him and I felt sorry for him because his life was ruined on a stupid mistake. And even though he killed my mom, you know, he didn’t do it on purpose, and i just think it’s great.” Matthew talks about forgiving the drunk driver even though he killed his mother. Forgiving the driver is a true step towards peace and for the driver to be able to put his life back on track. In Blocking the Transmission of Violence, the article discusses a story of how some gang members were about to seek revenge until an interrupter, “ prodded the guys with the egged cars to go to a car wash and then persuaded them it wasn’t worth risking their lives over a stupid prank.” Being able to reconcile with the gang members to prevent them from creating more violence was a step towards the right direction.
