Fischer, Kastenm¨uller and Greitemeyer (2009) explain that the effect is greater for the younger children and they may not distinguish what is real and what is not real. They tend to emulate what they see on the violent video game. As a result, young children and teens who play the violent games may not know how to differentiate between the reality and the fantasy. A journal article titled “Causal Effects of Violent Sports Video Games on Aggression: Is It Competitiveness or Violent Content?” Anderson and Carnagey, the authors of the article, explore the consequences of the competitive, violent sports on the behaviors of the players. Another journal article titled Media violence and the self: The impact of personalized gaming characters in aggressive video games on aggressive behavior authored by three social psychologists, Fischer, Kastenm¨uller and Greitemeyer, focuses on impersonal and personal characters. A third journal article titled Violent and nonviolent video games produce opposing effects on aggressive and pro-social outcomes authored by two social psychologists called Sestir and Bartholow explores the effects of non-violent and violent video games on the behaviors of the players.
