Violence Informative Speech

“I hate you, I trusted you,” the victim reportedly screamed before the girls left her for dead. In 2014, two 13 year old girls from Waukesha stabbed their 12 year old friend 19 times at a sleepover birthday party. The night had been going completely normal until they decided to go play in the woods, where they held her down, stabbed her, and left her there to die. When asked why they did it, they said it was to prove themselves to the internet character, Slenderman. How did this world turn two little girls into two violent criminals that attempted to take a friend's life. "Aggression is a trait that develops together with the nervous system over time starting from childhood. Patterns of behaviour become solidified and the nervous system prepares to continue the behaviour patterns into adulthood when they become increasingly coached in personality.Why are we so attracted to violent media, it’s almost cruel how we can passively watch others in extreme pain. Professor Craig Kennedy from the university of Vanderbilt did a study with mice where they were put in a cage with a female. After a while the female was removed and another male entered the cage. The mice fought for dominance and then the intruder was removed. The mouse was trained to put it’s nose on a trigger to make the intruder return, when the mice fought they experienced a surge of dopamine, this is what compelled them to hit the target over and over again. Kennedy says that this serves and evolutionary purpose for mammals to feel that protecting their mate or offspring is important.
