Violence In The Outsiders

The book “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton is a very interesting book with an important message, violence is not always the answer. This is shown in several different examples throughout the book. Most of us have seen violence even if it was a dramatic television show or in an actual real life experience, overall most of us have seen someone physically hurt. Ponyboy has seen violence throughout his life and during the experience as depicted in the book, he learns that violence is not good nor will it ever fix his problems. First, Ponyboys conversation with Randy tells us a lot about himself and what some people think about violence and the events that is going on in his life. During this conversation, Randy talks about how he is not going to fight in a local rumble between the two rival gangs that there are in, the Greasers and the Socs. The reason why this is because he thinks that this rumble will not solve anything and it is pointless to fight. Also, before the rumble Ponyboy has a conversation with his fellow gang members and siblings and asks why they like to fight. After their responses, Ponyboys think that he …show more content…
That event is the death of Johnny Cade and Dallas. One of the factors of Johnny’s death was that he was acting as a fugitive and was wanted which made him hide in the church where he injured and unfortunately died from his injuries. The reason why he was a fugitive was because of the killing of Bob. Ponyboy and Johnny were casually talking in the park when a group of Socs came and wanted to talk. The Socs started harassing them and Ponyboy stood up for himself. This led to Bob trying to drown Ponyboy and Johnny had to resort to stabbing Bob in order to save his friend. The dire situation in which this books describes all could have been avoided if a group of people, in this case the Socs, had not resorted to violence.
