The play, Romeo and Juliet, has a negative effect on people, especially young teens. Throughout the play there is a negative tone, beginning to end, that can lead people badly. This play shouldn’t be read by young teens because the play teaches violence and disobedience/disloyalty. The play, Romeo and Juliet, shows violence throughout the whole play. At the beginning of the play, Tybalt kills Mercutio and tells Romeo, “Thou, wretched boy, that didst consort him here,/Shalt with him hence”(III.i.127-128). Tybalt is telling Romeo that they will determine who is going to kill the other person. At the very end, Juliet commits suicide to be in Heaven and be with Romeo. Right before, Juliet kills herself, she says, “...O happy dagger!/This is thy sheath;there rust, and let me die”(V.iii.169-170). Just because Juliet is in love with Romeo, doesn’t mean that she has to take her life to be with him. In addition to the violence the play, Romeo and Juliet, also teaches young teens disobedience and disloyalty. …show more content…
The apothecary shows disobedience by saying, “My poverty but not my will consents”(V.ii.75). The apothecary shows enough greed to break Mantua’s law about selling harmful drugs. The apothecary is just selling the poison to Romeo because he needs the money. Also, Tybalt becomes disobedient when he says to Romeo, “Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries/ That thou hast done me; therefore turn and draw”(III.i.63-64). He is disobeying the Prince’s orders that there isn’t any fighting on the street. Tybalt’s hate for Romeo caused Tybalt to kill Mercutio and then get killed by Romeo.
