This shows the impact boxing has made on the life of this incredible boxer, not everyone knows his past but it could have been what soothed him through anger problems since most men and women in boxing use it as a sport to relax themselves similar to yoga. After researching about solutions for anger the one option that will keep Hamish happy since he gets to be violent but calm is boxing. In relation to Violence 101, in Let That Be The Reason the main character, Pamela uses violence to portray the feeling she feels on the inside of harassment and fear. The only solution to situations where she has no way out like when her clients force her to sleep with them is with the use of violence. She has the tendency to battle her way out of these situations, only so she can stay healthy to be a role model to her young little son. “Screw him and anyone else. I’ve got enough stress. I do not need anyone.” says Pamela after hitting a client with her bare hands because she did not want to be forced into the sexual trap which she has been running for quite a while using other girls. Starting off, Hamish has a tough life for a fourteen year old, he has been dealing with anger issues for all of his life and continues to have the challenge of overcoming this issue on a daily basis. “He is a highly intelligent boy from a middle-class family, has had every opportunity to be a success, yet he simply doesn’t fit the prescribed model” this shows that success doesn’t only depend on intelligence, issues leading to future events impact the success lifestyle. This one sentence describing Hamish proves that he has had a past with anger leading to a horrible future. It is mentioned thoroughly in the novel as it progresses when he sets the neighbourhood garage on fire because their dog barked at him through the fence, when he broke into a school and destroyed all science fair projects since his wasn’t selected and when he pushed a man off a wharf since the man was laughing at him (man drowned). These series of events are proven through the quote, “I get pushed into doing violent things by stuff that happens around me. People treat me like some sort of freak, probably because I’m smarter than them” again since it shows that people influence him to do such horrendous actions like the list above of his charges as a child.
