Leonardo de Vinci and Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni were both Italian artists who are considered to be the most influential artist to ever live, they also hated each other. Leonardo Da Vinci’s and Michelangelo’s work belong to the period of the High Renaissance, a period when the ideals of classical humanism were fully shown in both painting and sculpture using painterly techniques of linear perspective, shading and other methods of realism. These two artists display remarkable talent in religious paintings, using different styles of painting each. Leonardo favored a style called chiaroscuro, which is also called 3D painting and a specific technique, “sfumato”, which adds to the 3D effect by giving the paintings a shadowy quality.
