Art Analysis: Cypresses By Vincent Van Gogh

In art class there were many concepts about the different techniques and designs in order to make a piece of artwork. With the creation of various unique art compositions one can tell the brushes or movement that the artist took upon his or her artwork. Throughout the museum field trip, there were two paintings that were intriguing that caught my attention. The first painting called “Cypresses” by Vincent van Gogh is an oil canvas that was created on 1889. This is an asymmetrical balance of the anterior because of the tall vertical trees are weighing toward the left side of the painting. This second painting caught my attention because the perspective of the image creates an illusion of a real small plaza where the buildings are getting smaller from afar. The focal point if this image is the tower because it is vertically tall and full-size compared to the other buildings surrounding the structure because they get smaller within the image. The buildings have an architectural design where it creates a rhythm by a repetition of straight vertical and horizontal lines. Also the shadowing helps create this illusion that makes it look realistic because in between the plaza there are two wide buildings where the right building is being overshadowed and the left building is not. Likewise, this applies to the people that are small in the image because each individual has their own shadow, which creates a deception that it looks more of a photographic image. This artwork has an asymmetrical balance because it creates a stabled even weight of elements on both sides of the painting. The people in this painting shows how detailed they are from upfront and how smaller they are once it get s closer to the focal point. As the people get smaller the characteristics of their faces no longer appear to be there and the details of their clothes seems to be there but they are being blend within the other colors of their clothing features. Compared to the people that are up-close to the painting, they have more precise details within their body and face features as well as the clothes that they wear. This painting has a warm and cool temperature because within the image we can see how the buildings and most of the plaza have the predominant tones of yellow. The people also reflect warm light of this temperature tone based off of their images and clothes. Similarly, the people’s clothes have sunnier colors such as
