The vignette must 1) serve a purpose relative to the research problem, 2) offer substantive explorative context, and 3) introduce an alternative form of representing data. Reflection, as a component of action research, teaches the idea of learning as a part of growth. To this, the vignette was used in order to provide a less personal and threatening way to tell a story about learning and professional development opportunities within the Department. Ruzicka (2013) explained that while “vignettes have the potential to explore meanings and interpretations not easily accessible through other methods” (p. 17), like other data presenting measures, “use of these illustrative portrayals also pose several problems: establishing reliability and validity, especially external validity” (p. …show more content…
First, triangulation of qualitative sources support finding by including comparative analysis for different types of sources based on similar factors and methods. Next is the mixed method triangulation concept. This type of triangulation involves integrating quantitative and qualitative research methodology in order to support the findings. The consistency of results based on different data collection methods adds credibility and “elucidates complementary aspects of the same phenomenon” (Crabtree, 2006, para 5). Third, the multiple analysts triangulation approach utilizes “two or more persons independently to analyze the same qualitative data and compare their findings” (Patton, 2015, p. 665). Finally, the theory triangulation approach. It differs from the other approaches in that findings are supported by alternative theoretical frameworks instead of integrating results. According to Patton (2015), this approach uses different perspectives to examine and interpret the data in order to render a better understanding of “how differing assumptions and premises affect findings and interpretations” (p.
