I actually visited two temples, one called “Chua Dieu Phap" (located in San Gabriel, California) and one called “Vietnamese Buddhist Zen Meditation” (located in Renton, Washington). Crazy how it intrigued me enough to get in, and I did; and from there my adventures began. I knew how to work this thing only because I watch a lot of Dexter’s Laboratory as a child, therefore I dialed the knob back a few hundreds of years and ended up at the first Buddhist council in China and next a battle with the first Crusades. Some might wonder why would I want to go to a Buddhist council in China, well why wouldn’t a person want to know about that fat guy statue or better known as Siddhartha Gautama, that sits in the Chinese…

In the following decades, 1960s-1970s, there were other ethical problems, though not due to the manipulation of photographs, but about the actual subject of the picture which could be shocking for the viewers. Most of these problems were caused by the imagery that came from the Vietnam War. Those pictures were seen as controversial because they symbolize a special impression of war: the violence and brutality that was inflicted on the civil population, the useless sacrifice of American soldiers. Those images that now appear as symbols of the Vietnam War showed the atrocity of the war and the capacity of humans to commit crimes against other human beings. 5 Nick Ut, Napalm Girl, photograph, 1972…

After watching this movie Le Ly is not just the voice of the Vietnamese people but is a powerful one. Her actions throughout the movie influence other women to keep working hard no matter what struggles they face. This movie impacted me as it shows all the stuff that we take for granted like we have food in the fridges and we can go to a grocery store and buy any type of food one wants to eat. But Le Ly really did a good job acting like a Vietnamese women, showing what they go through on a daily basis, and there is no sign of it really getting better without people like Le Ly standing up and continuing to fight as much as possible.…

1.3 million-3.9 million is the estimated amount of innocent civilians who died during the Vietnam War (Bia). Although the Vietnam War was difficult and demanding for soldiers, the lives of the Vietnamese civilians were forever changed. The war affected the everyday lives of civilians by either making them flee the country to safety or by the countless attacks or killings they endured. The trials that the civilians faced during this time seem unrealistic; they suffered things that some could never imagine. The Vietnam War started in 1954.…

Growing up in a Mexican American household, most likely one is to be raised Catholic. Therefore, as a young boy it became ordinary to follow and believe in what my parents instilled in me. Furthermore, I never had the courage to explore any other religion and get a sense of what other religions are about. Chan Meditation initially grabbed my attention with the concept that the endurance of pain can be used as a tool for the development of concentration. I was first introduced to Chan meditation after participating in a short group meditation sit, held at a park in Downey and organized by the Lu mountain temple. The participants mainly discussed pain, and how concentrating on the discomfort can help relieve it. This experience left me with three major questions; what is Chan Buddhism? ; Why do they choose to put themselves through intense discomfort while meditating? ; How do the people feel Chan Meditation effects their lives?…
