“What we do in life echoes into eternity” (Russell Crowe)
Growing up in Garden Grove, California, I am greatly influenced by the Vietnamese culture. Surrounding me included authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and different aspects of the Vietnamese community that might be scarce anywhere else compared to the region I live in. With that, the culture flows within my home as well, and such a lifestyle still remains, except for a slight difference; my parents accredit my abilities, granting me access to decide my own fate and to choose my own path to greatness, instead of them determining what the rest of my life is going to be.

In my family, we have two military Vietnamese veterans: my grandpa from my father’s side, who served as an officer for the army, and my grandfather from my mother’s side, who also served in the Vietnam War. Their courageous souls and bravery are one of the other reasons as to why attending the military service academies is so important to me since I want to be able to continue the legacy of what they did in the past and make them even more prouder than they are of me. Everyday for the past four years, I stared at a poster of Russell Crowe in a gladiator costume from the 2000 movie, Gladiator, and on top of the poster stated, “What we do in life echoes into eternity” (Crowe). This philosophy greatly stood out to me since my performance can be looked back upon forever; so because of that, why not execute a plan and be that change that will be remembered for eternity? The academy can prepare me to be that change and to that innovation that continues on forever. Additionally, Horace once said,” Dimidium facti qui coepit habet“ (Horace), which translated into “ He, who has begun has his work half done.” This means that once an individual has started something, that person is half way there and is always finished. My work toward a great leader, greatness, honorary, and the best that I can be will be half accomplished and completed
