After my mom passed away three years ago because of a car crash my dad and I decided to move to San Mateo, California. Everything was new to my father and I, but we had to find a way to move on, moving from Michigan to California was a huge difference. In San Mateo the beach is right across our house; everyday is as bright and sunny as the last, in Michigan everyday was like winter. Well, in just one week I’ll be starting school at San Mateo Mountain High School. New kid, at a new school with no friends, great this was going to be fun.
I went into the house and my dad was just finishing up unpacking the last box. This house was much smaller than the one we had back in Michigan. But it was big enough for me and my dad, we didn’t care, especially

ugh.. I’m Gale,” Why was I so nervous to talk to her? Now I’m stuttering! I repeated myself. “Hi, I’m Gale, nice to meet you, I’m new in town.” That’s more like it Gale, I said to myself.
“Well nice to meet you too I hope you like San Mateo so far,” and she reached to shake my hand.
Just then the bus arrived, everyone was on their phones checking texts or on their social media- the addiction of our generation these days. The engines purred down the Stell road and the aroma was of new plastics and fabrics. Quinn soon found some friends and went to sit by them, while I was stuck sitting alone in the back of the bus by the window.

My first class was English, I was hoping to have Quinn in one of my classes today but so far it 's not my first period. The teacher Mrs. Smith, had already began calling roll call, and just like usual everyone says here if they are here. But I was too busy thinking to myself I didn’t hear my name get called. Just like always, first days of school are always the easiest, take home papers sign and done, thats our homework. After the bell rang, everyone was finding their way to second period. “Ok I have… math next. with Mr. Stewart. And just like last class it went by quick. Before I knew it, it was third period and I was going to my physical education class, with Mr. Simmons. It was now fourth period and I still haven’t had a class with Quinn. Heading to American Government I spotted Quinn standing in front of her class, hoping it was mine too,

I wrote this ahead of time because I didn’t want you to see me writing it while we were on our trip. But Gale, I just want to thank you for everything you have done for me, since day one I knew you were the guy, my best friend and soulmate. Hopefully you felt the same way. Gale I love all the things we do together, from doing homework to the walks at the beach and our hikes together. You are an amazing guy and I’m sorry about your mom, I know you loved her. But whatever you Gale you can get. Don’t let anything put you down, because you are strong and brave. I hope you never forget that! From that day I met you at the bus stop I knew we could become great friends, and we did, but Gale you mean so much more then that to me, we will be leaving High School, it 's time to go out in the world and show them who you are, just like you showed me, do what you want and don’t put yourself down, I will be there with you. I love you

A universal theme for me moving from Texas to California is overcoming. I was 8 years old when my family moved, and had to overcome knowing no one, a new school, and being out of my comfort zone. At this age you tend to start making good friends, all hang out in groups, and be less adventurous. My parents kept saying, “Find people who like the same things as you, and everything else will be easy”. The next week I did just that.…

I’ve had three big moves in my life that had been hard for me, but not as much as this recent big move to San Antonio. It was a sunny, humid day in Edinburg, Tx and I was texting my best friend Mariela while she was home sick when my Mother texted my brother, sister and I that we were moving to San Antonio. I instantly became so full of anger because my mother wanted to move us away again after only moving to Edinburg six years ago.…

May 19, 2014, was my last day in Detroit, and I have not been back since then. It was time to say goodbye to my grandmother, aunt, cousins, and friends. Though it was very difficult, I had come to the conclusion that I do not want to spend my whole life upset about moving.…

When I was younger, my parents always bragged how I was a quiet and obedient child. At 38 degrees latitude north and 92 longitude west, lies the rural farming town of California, Missouri. This town is rich in cornfields, small businesses, and many churches of all denominations. From the quiet fields, to the busy town square this city is home to 4,341 people. What I believe makes California stand out from the other towns is that it has the “oldest continuously operating fair west of the Mississippi” (Kunze). But the thing that impacts me most about this town is the California High School, it’s staff, and the students.…

Have you ever felt like your life would be totally different if you didn’t make a certain decision? When I was only two years old my parents made the decision to move to California. They believed my sister and I would have better opportunities here. Knowing how difficult it would be driving all that way since we did not have the money for plane tickets, they did it anyway. Growing up in a Hispanic home, I was obviously used to hearing and speaking Spanish.…
