Visualize a packed stadium, the crowd is silent, no sound is heard apart from the occasional announcer and the grunts of the two teams struggling. There is suspension building in the thousands of eyes in the crowd. Suddenly, the stadium is filled with the roaring sound of the crowd cheering for the winning team. The winning team celebrates and get handed a trophy and a check, all this won over a video game. This image shows the huge impact that video games have made on todays society, and the attention that they have continues to grow as more and more arguments rise from unknown sources. One of the biggest topics being if video games should be considered sports. Video games are sports. Video games require a level of skill as do other sports. Video games get just as serious, if not a bit more, as other sports. Video games work out the mind. Video games require skill in the sense that no one can pick up a controller, play a few games, and then sign up to be a Major League Gamer (MLG), in the same sense that no one can pick up a soccer ball, play a game or two and expect to end up in a Championship League. The concept of video games working out the human mind may be hard to grasp for some people, but it is a topic often brought up in favor of video games. According to nextavenue, 72 percent of American households play computer and video games and 29 percent of the players turn out to be 50. Gaming also helps in predicting unpredictable situations seeing as a gamer is constantly dealing with different scenes and scenarios when and where anything can happen and they have to always be ready to handle whatever comes their way.
