Video Games have always been a part of my life. When I was a child, my mom and dad bought a PS2 so my mom could exersize. She would play Dance Dance Revolution to move around, and a few other games for entertainment. Then, when I was about 5, a family at our church gave us a Wii for Christmas. It included 4 remotes and a few games. I still play these games all the time. My dad told me when he was younger, he and his family got an Atari 2600 for Christmas. He would play Yars Revenge all the time. When my dad would babysit kids in his community, there was a family that had a Sega Genesis. He would play Sonic the Hedgehog while the kids were sleeping. Both of my parents had friends that had Nintendo Entertainment Systems, and would play Super …show more content…
It was called Minecraft, and the premise was you could do whatever you wanted. Explore dangerous caves, mine valuable resources, build houses, you name it. It taught me creativity and exploration, which helps me create imaginative ideas. When I was 10, my dad and I were at a local Target, when I stumbled upon a game called Portal 2 that taught me a very valuable skill: puzzle solving. In Portal 2, you play as a silent protagonist named Chell, whose goal is to escape from Aperture Science, a testing facility run by a rogue AI named GLaDOS. You escape the facility by using a device called a Portal Gun, that, as you may have guessed, shoots portals. There are surfaces that conduct the portals, and your job is to solve puzzles using this technique. What I didn’t know at the time was that this game would teach me how a story is made. See, Portal 1, the prequal to Portal 2, tells the general story of Chell escaping the clutches of GLaDOS, but Portal 2 expands the story with many new details and several bits of lore to find. Because of this game, I have a better understanding of deeper meaning. It taught me not to look on the surface, but to find details that contribute to a bigger
