Since the time of arcades and joysticks depicting tiny yellow creatures eating pixilated dots, video games have been under scrutiny by adults over the world. Parents proclaim that video games are detrimental to their children’s education, and that they are getting addicted to these games; while society illustrates games as a leading cause of childhood obesity, and places the blame of juvenile crimes on video games. However, hundreds of studies show that these accusations are completely false. To begin with, parents love to indict video games as the source of their child’s failing grades. Parents insist that if their children were spending less time in front of a controller, then they would perform higher in school. These allegations are not only unjust, but also completely false. Society believes that children playing video games are only sitting on a couch, gazing at a screen, and performing very little movement. This is untrue, however, now that exergames appeared onto the shelves of stores. Many of these games, such as the popular Just Dance and Kinect games allows children to “burn more calories than they did while walking on a treadmill at a 3-mph pace." (3) Although, video games have a much more positive effect on children than just exercise. The University of Michigan has software engineering students designing “several Kinect games for children with autism,” including a game titled “Tickle Monster,” in which children “learn about both appropriate touch and facial expressions.”(5) Video games have also been known as a stress reliever and outlet for more violent
