The Controversy of Video Games Linking to Violence Ever since the first video game has been created, the debate whether or not video games cause violence among avid gamers has caused a huge split. This split has caused to form two sides, one against video games and one that is for video games. Although there can be many debates about video games, the most talked about topic is violence possibly being linked to playing video games. For some, if there is a slight link to a video game and a crime, it is automatically stated it was the games fault for causing the person to commit such a heinous act. On the other hand, the other side will state that it was not the game, that it was the person and that a game cannot cause such a crime. With …show more content…
These schools that are updated will all contain a computer of some sort for students to use for projects, essays, and research. Along with this, many of these schools include video game programs specifically for learning many subjects, such as the “Jump Start” series and “Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?” series, especially for younger students. For some students, learning something new in a course, such a mathematics, science, literature, or history, can be extremely difficult. With younger students, they are given a computer video game to play that can enhance their learning experience, making it easier to understand and learn in the classroom which, in overall, will improve their performance. Even with older students, they can be given a simulation to enhance learning in the classroom or learn how to take on certain responsibilities that they will have to face as an adult once they begin their own lives. Even simulation video games have been beneficial to many corporations on training their new employees. When I was in elementary school, it was required for all students to play video games on the computer in lab in order to boost our skills in the classroom. These programs helped me within the classroom by giving me the extra material and positive feedback I needed to feel more confident in certain subjects. A lot of games consists of the same thing over and over again, repeating a boring process that is commonly known a game block. At this point in the gaming industry, it’s nice to find something every once in a while that does not consists of a shooting or survival game, which seems to be the top games over used. To those few programmers who actually have a bit of creativity in their body and are not some machine on the gaming assembly line, these programmers create something entirely new and highly enjoyable. Usually these games are not mainstream and usually are not made by big companies. These games usually consist of a person or a small team that aim to create something different and inspiring. These games usually consist of making choices that affect the story, a well thought out plot line and/or character development, strange gameplay mechanics, multiple endings, and/or a unique art style. An example of one of these games is “Stray Cat Crossing”. Although the game is pixelated, it is highly detailed and has a well thought out plot line. The story follows our unnamed protagonist who finds herself walking a small girl, named Cat, home. After Cat takes the protagonist scarf into her home by accident, the protagonist goes into the house only to realize that the house isn’t a normal house at all.
