It 's now common to catch your husband or children engrossed into the T.v playing a video game. By 2017 video games are predicted to reach $102.9 Billion in worldwide sales most of those sale being violent video games. On November 10, 2010 Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 was released which grossed $550 million in five days, the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops grossed $360 million on its first day out. This means that instead of adolescents picking games like Mario, Minecraft, or Sonic they 're choosing more violent, bloody, and brutal games like Saints Row and or Red Dead Redemption. An average school day can be between 6-8 hours some kids play games like the ones previously discussed for 6-8 hours or longer virtually performing acts like killing, robbing, and theft. Does violent video games affect the brain you might ask? Yes it does, Dr. Vincent Matthews and his colleagues at Indiana University conducted a study to see what happens in the brain when playing a violent or nonviolent video game. 28 students all young adult men who had no previous gaming experience were randomly assigned to play a nonviolent or violent (First person shooter) video game (Park 2011). Every day for a week each students brain activity were being monitored by a functional MRI. A functional MRI is a neuroimaging procedure using MRI technology that measures the brain activity by detecting changes associated with the blood flow.
