Advertising can sometimes have a positive effect on the public. Many alcohol and tobacco companies spend money warning the public of the dangers of their products. Young child don 't understand the concept of a sales pitch, im most cases, they simply follow the crowd. On average, a child sees over 20,000 commercials each year. These commericials promote sugared cereals, candy, fatty foods and toys. Video games also have a big influence on children. With rise in technology, more and more video games are being made each day. Excessive exposure to violent video games should be discouraged because they can have a negative effect on a young person 's mental development. When Obama ran for President, one of his biggest assets was the fact that he had media mogul Oprah Winfrey supporting him. Without her support Obama may not have had enought exposure to win the Presidency. The influence of the media is practically immeasurable. Everyone who wants to have an impact on the public knows to go through the media. The media shapes our opinion about musicians, actors, politicians and almost everyone in the public eye. With the shooting in Charleston, a lot of media companies have banned the show "The Dukes of Hazzard". They know that some may think they are promoting racism and hate. The media is not only was influencial on society, but its influence is increasing and growing more violent in sports and entertainent. The popularity of fighting has grown with the creation of the UFC ( Ultimate Fighting Championship). This Mixed Martial Arts media group is so brutal that MMA cage fights are banned in many areas, including New York City. People are spending more time watching media like television leading to obesity and undeveloped social skills. The internet is a large source of media, but is also used for viewing of pornography and other offensive media. Many years ago most people listened to music on records, then came cassette tapes, and eventually compact discs. The music never changed just the way it delivered. Nowadays, we are using digitial downloads to get our music through media outlets like Itunes. Storing information digitally is much more convienient and takes up less space than having cd 's or tapes. The way we way movies has changed also. The use of the VCR player has become obsolete, with the invention of the DVD player. Today the DVD is actually being replaced by the "Blu-Ray" player, which is supposed to be sharper and more interactive. Televisions themselves have become more advanced with the invention of High Definition and now we have Ultra High Definition. Technology is constantly pushing forward changing the way media is presented to us. Even the use of books have become almost obsolete with the invention of Ipad and E-readers. Almost all media nowadays is stored and presented digitally. Music and musical equipement have changed with the increase in technology. Before the invention of the transittor, the invention of the laptop would have been an impossibility. Computer were so large they would take up a whole room. Most computers were larger than the average refridgerator. Now the same technology used those massive computers can be stored in the a simple cell phone, known as a "smart phone". The smart phone as revolutionized the computer industry.
