Playing video games for a mass amount of hours are often looked negatively upon. Video games do carry negative characteristics such as addiction, headaches, and loss of sleep. But those behaviors tend to be exhibited by people who have outrages behaviors and a lack of self-control when playing competitive video games. If a player is able to control his or her emotions, the player will experience a great amount of positive effects from video games. I began playing a variety of video games eight years ago, and it has helped my personal development tremendously. After I started playing video games, I noticed that other people struggled to learn our school material more often than I did. Due to every player having different preferences, there are different ways to play games. Minecraft is potentially the greatest game of all time in terms of creativity. Minecraft is a sandbox block game, where you play in a realm very similar to the real world. To elaborate on what Minecraft is, sandbox means there are minimal character limitations placed. This feature allows the gamer to roam and play the virtual reality how he or she pleases. And the block game feature is where everything is set in forms of cubes; for example, mining up dirt in real life would be round or curved if you used a shovel, but in Minecraft, a block is removed from the ground. Thanks to the sandbox feature, many ways of playing Minecraft have been created since its release. Survival World is the most basic game mode of Minecraft. A player plays this game mode by him or herself, or with others to increase the challenges of surviving. A player gathers materials and explores an infinite world however the player wishes, and the goals and inventions he or she wishes to accomplish are set by the player. In addition to the basic Survival World game mode, there are thousands of other game modes that people have created over the years. A Survival Games game mode was created, and the game mode was an instant hit throughout the Minecraft community. Survival Games is based off the Hunger Games movie. Due to the variety of video games that I have played, I have been put in many different situations in many different story lines to complete tasks within the video game. These experiences have helped me think outside of the box with assignments and exams I have taken throughout my education so far. These experiences have even made me quicker in my abilities. I remember one exam I had in Business Law contained fifty multiple choice questions and five essay questions. I finished the exam in eighteen minutes and twenty seconds, and made a 97%. I studied the material well, and the quick reaction times and fast typing speed I gained through playing video games allowed me to fly through the exam successfully. Video games even helped me with my basketball abilities. There is an NBA video game series which allows you to play as famous NBA players and their teams, and go against other NBA teams either controlled by an opposing player or an artificial intelligence programming. By playing these NBA video games, I was able to learn when to perform a move based on a way a defender is positioned, and how to counter moves when I am the defender. In one match I played against a random opponent online, we were very even in game skill. It was a tie game with ten seconds left, and I had the ball.
