Video games have existed since the late 1950s, but they only became a part of modern culture in the1980s. Since then, games have underwent huge changes, yet they still face the same troubles as they did back in the day. There is this idea that playing a video game, particularly a violent one, makes you violent. There are many other claims that video games produce effects on the human mind, such a detachment to reality, or the tendency to commit crimes, even nonviolent ones. However, video games do not produce adverse effects for the ordinary persons psyche, instead it is a medium in which you can find friends or even earn a living. The first video game created is accredited to a Physicist by the name of William HiginBotham. It was a very simple game, similar to tennis, but it was popular at the time. It would take quite a time before video games evolved into what they are today. It was not until 1976 that what might be considered a violent video game was released. Its name was Death Race, and like the name might imply, it consisted of running over creatures and killing them until you ran out of time. It may not seem like much, but it was declared morbid by a national safety council. As a result there was a public outcry and creator of the game had to remove it from the market.
