Do you think video games are the cause of violent actions in our country? The increase of violent crimes didn’t start because of video games, it started with the Columbine High School Shooting. Ever since the massacre at the Colorado high school in 1999, the violent school shooting crimes have increased tremendously. There were no school shootings until the two students had brought fire upon the school. Every one of the perpetrators who were charged in school shootings were either raised poorly, had mental illness, or was treated poorly by their peers. Although there may be a little violent and gory video games, they shouldn’t be the blame for violence in our country. Video games do not cause violent crimes because gun violence is less prevalent in countries with high video game use, video games have a positive act of kindness and prosocial behaviors, and gamers know the difference between virtual violence in the context of a game and appropriate behavior in the real world. In countries with high video game use, there are far less violent crimes. Video games can make a person feel somewhat guilty and want to try to do something positive to help others. Japan is one of the ten countries that are associated with video games the most. A study of the top 10 countries in video game markets had no correlation between playing video games and gun-relating killings. Since the United States are not in the high ranks of video game use, the results show. In 2005, the United States had 2,279 murders committed by teenagers compared to the 73 in Japan. Even though the United States gun violence is high, the top 10 countries in video game use have some of the lowest violent crime rates. Some might say that violent video games lead to violent crimes, but the countries with the highest video game usage is on the bottom of the list of violent crimes.
