Videogames have been the pinnacle of modern day entertainment ever since the late 1980’s where it really took the attention of many young children seeking entertainment outside of watching TV. The only problem with this is the fact that videogames, like everything else that is popular, will have controversy. The main problem surrounding videogames is the fact that they are considered violent and unsafe for young children to play while also being blamed for inspiring countless acts of horrific crimes such as mass shootings, and murder which most of the time is unjustified and makes no sense. Videogames don’t cause violence because there is no evidence to back it up, it’s just a scapegoat for lazy politicians who don’t want to deal with the …show more content…
Most parents of avid gamers believe they are in basically solitary confinement which is an absurd remark. “Microsoft and Sony revolutionized social console gaming with Xbox Live and the Playstation Network.” (Adkins Kylie) These networks make these “confined” gamers able to communicate to anyone around the globe and it may not be as effective as meeting them in person but at least gamers are communicating to other people and helps learn social skills for kids who are shy. Another fact which was received from an article by Issues and Controversies stating that “additionally, a recent review of research done by the American Psychological Association found that playing video games, even violent ones, may actually have positive effects on children by helping them vent their aggression in a harmless manner.”(“Violent Video Games” Issues and Controversies) Not only that but certain action packed games such as many first person shooters can improve reaction time and possibly improve your vision since you constantly have to react very quickly to get a kill or high score in these …show more content…
There is a very simple solution to this issue and it’s just that parents need to be aware of what is safe for their child. If parents know that their child is easily susceptible to violence, than a violent video game with guns and murder probably isn’t the best thing for that child in question. Parents need to look at the ratings of the games and do some research on the game to see if it’s too much for their child. If that doesn’t work than video game companies should show some video clips of the actual game being played by someone at its most climactic event to show viewers what the game will be like and how violent it will be. Video games help our society and deserve and extra life and if parents watch after what their kid is playing video games and violence in real life will no longer be at the brink of
