Video games have been a way to express the ideas and creativity of a person, but it has been taken to another level. In the two articles, “Sex, violence and video games” by Mitch Krpata and “Not a Hater, Just Keepin ' It Real: The Importance of Race- and Gender-Based Game Studies” by David J. Leonard, the theme of racism is presented in the form of video games. Although video games are just fantasy, major social issues that affect all us in different ways have risen. Moreover, Leonard makes a crucial argument about the importance of stereotype, race and gender in video games. In the other hand, Krpata defends the critics made about racism, violence and sex portrayed in video games. While both, Leonard and Krpata address the issues of racism and stereotype in video games, they each support their claims differently. Leonard’s argument, in contrast to Krpata, is more effective since he incorporate statistical data to support his claims and focuses on the importance of video games. Whereas Krpata only support his claims using gamer’s opinion, not enough “analytical” evidence and does not realize the importance of video games.
