Potential of Video Games as Sports Video game has been around our society since 1940's (Video Game History). Although video games were mostly used for people who are accessible of high technologies until 1970's, video games became extremely popular since then. However, despite the fact that video games are already closely in our daily lives as entertainment, it is not considered as sports. Many argues that video games are only a plaything of younger kids, and it is not considered as good influence to people. Such reasons and some characteristic of video games, no big involvement of physical actions, puts video games into different category from regular sports are in. Baek states that "it is all about using ones' brain and fingers, video games is totally separate genre from the original sports." Backing his argument with MP1ST's article, "Traditional sports are steadfast, and resolute in their structure and mechanics," Baek believes sports should be a category of regular sports that requires certain amount of physical actions. Video games are virtual entertainment in a computer system, which Baek strongly points outs that "virtual" world cannot be part of sports. Baek also states that video games are "commending an order to a system that is already prepared, but on the other hand, regular sports has random exceptions that occurs from nature." Factors which Baek stats that exclude video games from being in sport category are: it does not require physical actions although there is Wii or Xbox Live that requires much physical actions, is in virtual world but virtual world is part of our life, and just a set up system which most sports are set up system as well. Regular sports requires intensive skill plays in order to compete in competitive league. Different type of games have different requirements to play, sometimes it is team work or it could be solo player, but despite player skills, team work is crucial in team video game competitions as much as traditional sports. In sports team cooperation can have large impact from being defeated or to become a victor, League of Legends teamwork OP video conclude "your ability to coordinate as a team has a significant impact on game's outcome."
