Violent video games have been blamed for school shootings, increases in bullying, and violence. Some would argue violent games make players lead to violence, reward players for simulating violence, and teach violence is an acceptable way to resolve conflicts. It is perceived violent video games lead to increase aggression, cause antisocialism and make people more likely to be sensitive to violence.

Violent-shooting video games are among the most popular video games. Since the technology advancements of these games have increased they have increased in popularity. Research from the General Aggression Model (GAM) has identified that these violent video games have increased the level of aggression in players. In one experiment conducted people were randomly assigned to one of four conditions. These were a neutral video game which as off-line, a neutral video game which as online, a violent video game off-line and a violent video game online. After completion of the games a questionnaire was given to the participants to access their attitudes about the game they played and were engaged in a chili sauce paradigm to measure behavioral aggression.

Other people aren't convinced and insist video games are a scapegoat for a shocking social trend and it has people scared and looking to place blame. The Entertainment media has always made a great scapegoat: In the 1950s, lots of people blamed comic books for kids' bad behavior. . If a lawsuit would come out of this it probably will be thrown out of court. Other lawsuits against video game companies for distributing violent content have been thrown out.
