Violence is very common in the media and can cause many problems in society. In today’s age televisions, personal computers, and cellular devices are prevalent in households. Many Americans can spend up to 4 hours a day watching television and 4.7 hours a day on their cellphone. If 8.7 hours is spent on either a cellphone or on that is equal to roughly 243.6 hours in just one month. That is one third of our time a month spent either watching television or looking at social media on our cellular phone. Media allows individuals to get direct access to various forms of visual information in mere seconds. However, this also demonstrates children can also access this information fairly easy. With minimal effort, steps should be made in order to prevent exposing children to graphic and disturbing images. Violence is common in movies, on television shows, video games and even on the radio. I believe this has a direct effect on today’s adolescence. In society, children are spending less time outdoors with their friends and more time indoors playing video games or watching television. Video games have specified ratings that determine what the appropriate age of the player should be. This was effective in regulating the age of purchasers until consoles such as Xbox and Playstation created an online store that you can purchase games with a credit card which does not monitor who the specific person that is playing the game.
