A student being surrounded by video games is almost inevitable, even more so with video game popularity continuing to increase. Video games are readily available on a variety of different devices including mobile ones, which allows one to be able to play video games at any time of the day, anywhere. Because of its time consuming role in a child’s life, the question of whether video games are affecting a child’s academic performance is often argued. Although parents and teachers conclude that video games are negatively impacting their children, the results of conducted research can argue otherwise, making it clear that there is no correlation at all. Suspending anyone playing video games on school grounds is not going to change the fact that kids are going to be going home to their video games, and instead may cause a revolt of angry students whose entertainment has …show more content…

There are so many different types of games that there will certainly be one for just about anyone in this world. The study of video game effects on human behavior is still premature and there are even less studies on the correlation with academic performance. In today’s society, video games tend to have a negative correlation, which was proven in studies done in 2000, however, recent studies show that “there is no clear causal relationship between video game playing and academic performance,” (Video Games and Academic Performance, College of Coastal Georgia). Mixed data is a main contribution to the topic of discussion for video games, making it harder to reach a conclusion. Also, the fact that academic performance has many other contributing factors makes it difficult to pinpoint the direct effect video games
