With the rate of aggression among younger people on the rise, and the possible link between video games and aggression continuously being discussed, it calls into question why this link could have been found. The Psychodynamic Perspective appears to fit meticulously. Influenced by Sigmund Freud and the school of Psychoanalysis, The Psychodynamic Perspective is defined as, “The view that behavior is influenced by the struggle between unconscious sexual or aggressive impulses and opposing forces that try to keep this threatening material out of consciousness.” This perspective suggests psychological problems such as aggression, a prone to violence, unrelenting anger, is rooted in childhood. Attempting to explain human behavior, Freud’s view of psychology pinpoints the unconscious …show more content…
Does the violence they have unconscious memory of from video games as a child produce the aggression shown today? When a child’s development is no longer spent actively using their imagination and rather glued to the front of a screen with a moving picture depicting what is normal. It becomes quite unpretentious to connect the dots between aggression and younger people. Whether they remember simple scenes from video games or not, with these images being flashed into their mind from such a young age, it normalizes violence and aggression in a world where otherwise they would witness substantially less of it. Violence becomes something not just in stories but a reality real to them, and that is what is portrayed to them through video games. The Psychodynamic Perspective, the idea of behavior being influenced by the unconscious battle of sexual and aggressive impulses and the contrasting side attempting to keep it unconscious, fits pretty consistently with a biblical worldview.
