Table top games are a very large category of games and entertainment. They are also something many families have enjoyed for many years. From commonly known things such as Monopoly or Uno, to less known games such as Settlers of Catan. These games serve many purposes as well, but sadly have a decrease to there popularity as video games take over at an accelerating rate. Even with that they are still something me, my friends, and family all enjoy, and for many reasons. When it comes to table top games there are multiple types and genres. You have simple card games like Uno or gin that are easy to sit down and play with a short amount of times. These are regular card games either need just a deck of standard playing cards or a special made …show more content…
These games won’t generally have a board, or cards used the same way as in most card games. The best example of this would be games such as Dominoes or Pictonary. These games are still as fun as the two types above, but with different rules that make them feel more unique. While all games are meant to be unique on there own sometimes Uno just feels like another card game, or Monopoly another board game. These games will generally have a less common time limit where as the other two group can generalize around time limits, depending on the sub-category of the game. Another group of table top games which is one of the older styles that takes simply a character sheet, dice, a pencil, friends, and time is RPG’s. While I have described card and board RPG games they aren’t like the original, and the best example being DnD (Dungeons & Dragons). Influenced by Lord of the Rings DnD opened up a gateway to many table top and video games design, and stories. From simple friends gathering around a table with nothing but paper, pencil, and dice one of the most revolutionary style of gaming was born. While DnD did influence many card and board games, there have been many other type of RPG’s that have spawned from its shadow. One example being Pathfinder, but there are many …show more content…
Well best way to start getting into table top games is to find either a local gaming store, friends, or groups into board games. With stores a number of them will either demo games if you ask, or will have rooms set up to demo games. With this you can try different game, and find what you like the most. Another thing to do is find through friends, or online local groups that play games in general or a specific table top game. This will also get you into your community more, and for some out of there basement where they spend all there spare times staring a screen as they tap away at buttons. Another great thing is while you do spend money to get the games you can play them with friends and family. Another thing you can do is let others borrow the game where many video games these days are just direct download and cant be lent. Lastly they make great gifts gives people something new to try and you spread the fun and joy of table top games. All in all there are many good reasons to play table top games, and many different types. They can even be seen as a healthier alternative to other activities. Since they require being with people, thinking of new strategies, or just being able to get away from all the stress to relax. I also believe there is no one out there that dislikes every table top game out there, there is one for everyone to enjoy. One final thing that
