Parents of children who play games with simulated violence tend to check a game’s rating provided by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). The ESRB is a non-profit organization that helps companies add safe and responsible online practices for everyone to enjoy. The ESRB rating goes from early childhood (EC) to adults only (AO). A study done by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) said that ninety-five percent of parents monitor the content of their children’s games. In the ESA study, it says that from the years 1998 to 2013 violent crime dropped in millions as computer and video game sales increased in billions (“Essential Facts About Games and Violence.”) In the article penned by Evan Dashevsky, it is said that 2012 had about a thirteen percent drop in violent crime than 2008. The same article also said that for every one percent of video games sold, there was a 0.003 percent fall in crime. 0.003 percent adds up considering that billions of video games are sold each year (Dashevsky.)
