Video Analysis: The Best Me That I Can Be

Improved Essays
There are two important points for me in the video “The best me that I can be.” The first point is that students need to be aware of, taught, and participate in their IEPs and understand their disability. The second point is that Education, especially Special Education, has a language of its own. So, as teacher and specialists, we need to teach students and parents the language of Special Education. Also, we need to be using words that students will comprehend. The two parts that stood out the most for me was the importance of making sure everyone understands the language that is being used. Crystal Evans, Preston’s mom, makes a great point about making sure everyone understands the language we are using including the students. So instead

In the video, “‪Eye of the Storm Featuring Jane Elliott Training Video or DVD TrainingABC‬,” Jane Elliot explains how a blue-eyed is more superior to anyone who has brown eyes. She goes on to say that “the blue-eyed people will get 5 more minutes of recess and the brown-eyed people with have to use a cup to drink from the fountain” (TrainingABC, 2013). Even though I believe Elliot thought this would work in all generations, I don’t agree with that at all. Parents should not allow their children to go through with this because it could cause discrimination based on eye color and it can cause them hurt in the long run. In this video, Elliot discussed how a certain eye color means that you are better than another.…

The video I chose was a Ted Talks video with scientists James Hansen who spoke out about climate change. James Hansen has written and published many articles and books about climate change and also worked with NASA for a period of time to help developed an experiment to fly to Venus. James Hensen's climate observations truly began in 1981 when he joined other scientists to analyze and publish an article in a science magazine that observed that the earth was warming 0.4 degrees Celsius in the century before. The developers of the article came to the conclusion that their research was consistent with the greenhouse effect which meant there is an increase in CO2 on earth.…

When observing a special education classroom I am not only observing the class, but I am observing a glimpse into my future as a teacher. I was privileged enough to observe a multi-needs intermediate classroom with students who range from eight to ten year olds at Hope D. Wall School who have moderate to server learning disorders and physical handicaps. The purpose of the multi-need classroom is for the teacher to assess which path the student will take after the year is over. For an example some students might need more intensive guidance during their education, while other students attend life skills classes in order to prepare for life outside of school. While I was observing the class, I was fortunate enough to witness the students participate…

As Special Education Teacher and General Education Teacher we need to work together in order to achieve the goals for the IEP for a particular student. In this case Ms. Fragoso and I developed an Instructional Matrix to follow in a daily basis in our inclusion setting. In this table we included goals to improve in our student the social skills and communication skills. We concluded that we need to help our student in order to improve his social and communication skills in order to improve his quality of life. It is important to say that this Instructional Matrix will remind us to reinforce each of instruction for each period.…

Even alpha m.’s user name references dominance and masculinity. “Alpha” is presumably a reference to the alpha, or highest ranking individual in a group of people. “The alpha male posturing, so familiar to young men out in public space, has been a staple of masculine behavior for decades” (Moss, 2012, p. 14). Alpha m. embraces this idea of the alpha male, but he believes that a man can be an alpha while also interested in his appearance. Alpha m.’s channel, like Studio5ive.com, a website for male cosmetics studied by Claire Harrison, aims to target men who “posses or want to posses a ‘sense of style and image awareness’” (2012).…

In 2012, 5.8 million children in the United States were receiving special education services all as result from The Disability Movement pushing for IDEA and ADA. Over 2.3 million (more than 40%) of those students are identified with having a specific learning disability (Lee). Prior to the success of ADA and IDEA, children with a disability were not able to get a proper public school education. The Disability Movement and its success with IDEA has strongly impacted schools. Special education is in every school system to help students with disabilities have success in life. According to Artiles and colleagues research, children back in the 1800s were excluded from educational opportunities (Artiles, Harris-Murri, and Rostenberg, 2006, p. 260). Children with disabilities were often segregated into either a separate classroom or separate schools with curriculum that didn’t fit their needs (Artiles, 2006, p. 260). Children were held to low standards, but fortunately that is not the way we see special education today. With the introduction of the Individual with Disabilities Education Act otherwise known in IDEA in 2004 we see more of a movement towards inclusion (Department of Education, 2004).…
