M.S. 13 is a gang that started out in the Los Angeles area. It has now grown and spread out among states and even continental. When the video first was filmed, they were in 33 states, but by now it’s like 46 or 47 states. With 10,000 foot soldiers, they have a very organized group. If we take a closer look at this group, we can see how they interact with each other and who they treat family. This type of language is known as body language. In M.S. 13, they have a whole other language to communicate with people without saying a single word. The first one is brushing your shoulder. This means you are about to stab someone. Say you are walking past a rival gang member who is on your turf. You brush your shoulder so your fellow gang member knows you are going to take care of the enemy by stabbing him. Next is rubbing your stomach, which mean you’re going to shoot. Again, a rival gang has plans to attack you, but you have the advantage and are lying in wait to attach first. As they approach, you rub your stomach, telling the gang members that it’s time to shoot. Finally, popping the collar or taking your shirt off means we’re going into battle. In the video, a group of M.S. 13 members ripped of their shirts in a collective group before attacking one of their own because he was a rat. As you can see, without shouting across the street to your comrade and alerting the enemy, you do a single hand signal and they know what you want to do and can get prepared. It is an intelligent way to send messages to others. There are also hand signals to say what gang you are, but the most creative way is body art. 13 has a mysterious leader who gives orders to the higher ups that are in charge of each small group. This is the reason they are so organized and no one has caught them. For having the mysterious leader, the directions are given and no one can follow a trail back to the leader. He is currently in hiding somewhere. Some say he is in jail, hiding in a mass of M.S. 13 members, trying to blend in to plain sight. Others say that he’s just really well hidden. No one really knows the true identity of the leader, only the higher ups at least know him. Again, I will say that this is the reason they are so organized. They get the orders, and no one can find the person who gave the command. It is genius, they could be in plain sight hiding as a regular member but really be the leader.
