The video in class was about the artist known Kara Walker. She wanted to become an artist because as a child she remembers sitting on her Fathers lap and just sitting there and watching her father draw. Something about that made her realize that she wanted to be an artist. She is known for her silhouette pieces. Her pieces focus on a singular point in history. Most of those are pieces on slavery. As she said about her work “A lot of what I was wanting to do in my work and what I have been doing has been about the unexpected…that unexpected situation of wanting to be the heroine and yet wanting to kill the heroine at the same time.”
