She then got back to the lecture and on her powerpoint it asked “Why do teachers plan?.” One student raises her hand and answers “to be prepared”. Another student says “to have an objective or purpose.” After getting students opinions, the professor shares the answer “If teacher wasn’t there, substitutes or principals would want to look at it. Second is for yourself, then you know what you did last year. If lesson worked well, you can use next year or maybe even tweak it to fit. You also can use the lesson plan to mentor other future teachers.” And the professor just went through the powerpoint slides as many students were quickly scribbling down notes. A few students sat there and were staring at the board and a couple were just on their …show more content…
Backward Design is a method used to design educational curriculum by before choosing forms of assessment and instructional methods after setting goals. An example of a backward design is if you want kids to know about sugar and acid causing cavities, using good oral hygiene can help. Everyone seemed to be interested in watching the video, because all eyes were focused on the screen now. The video showed what Backward Design is with two scenarios. In the first scenario, it shows a group of friends organizing a day out, but by the end of the day they have not achieved their goal. In the second scenario, they approach their day differently by talking about what they would like to do and decide for a common outcome for the day which each person gets ready and the group will work together to make sure the day is a big success. At the end, it informed the class that the second scenario is what backward design is. When the video finished the professor asked the class to turn to their neighbor and explain what they believed backward design is. Almost everyone participated by turning to a neighbor and discussing their thoughts with the exclusion of a couple of people who just sat there. An hour had passed since class had started, and so the professor gave the class a ten minute

ELAD543 M1 Video Discussion The Seinfeld clip is hysterical, yet it provides valuable points to note regarding delivering a lesson. As students entered the room he did not greet them in a positive manner and when class began his first sentence, “I’ve graded your tests and I have to say I’m a little more than disappointed,” was discouraging. No objective, essential question or anticipatory set was used to engage students into the lesson. When he questioned students and they offered incorrect responses, he did not shut them down; rather, he restated or rephrased the question, which is a good strategy to use.…

The first and one of the most important concepts I’m going to link the MS13 video to is, ‘Population’. The book states that population is, a target group to be studied (Henslin 130). The MS13 population first started in Hollywood but has nearly spread around the whole world. MS13 consists of mostly immigrants from Central America, but they recruit anyone that is desperate for an opportunity to change their life. This happened because members of the gang were usually immigrants from El Salvador that came to the United States.…

In the CNN article, The meaning of tolerance in the Trump era, anti-Trump, journalist, Isaac Bailey, advises readers on how those who did not vote for Trump’s “bigotry and misogyny” should handle their relationships with people that did. The author uses a C-Span video with an admittedly prejudiced veteran and a situation involving religion and homosexuality on the Ellen Degeneres Show, to help define when, “it makes sense to be tolerant of opposing views”, and when, “it is appropriate to separate yourself from potentially soul-sapping relationships”. The C-Span video he writes about of a disabled veteran admitting the wrongfulness of his racial prejudice and asking how he can overcome it, as an example in which one should tolerate someone’s…

Karen Payne is an older woman who was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease four years ago, and that is a disease that destroys ones hearing permanently. Knowing that she will soon enough lose her ability to hear she thought it would be in her best interest if she moved to a Deaf community. Karen Payne and her husband along side of her moved near Gallaudet, where she was very eager to attend. She applied to the University of Gallaudet and waited quite some time to hear back from them, but sure enough she was accepted and could not be happier.…

Imagine you're entering to your class after a nice and long summer vacation. Your teacher tells you that you're having a test to see how you're doing in that math, english or science class. I am pretty sure that you will not do that well on your test, thanks to your nice and long summer vacation. That is one of the reasons why I believe that a year-round school schedule is better or more helpful for students than having a traditional schedule. to have a better understanding on what we are doing.…

The first week of CAB 100 being taught by Professor Bailey was very interesting, yet fun and exciting. The first activity the class did was an ice breaker where every student grabbed as much toilet paper tissue as they desired, but the catch was the student had to tell something about themselves equal to the amount of toilet tissue they grabbed. For the second part of class the professor introduced herself to the class. At this point she then told the class about herself and why we all were taking this class. She gave us a little a course overview with a video.…

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…

In the film To Live, we follow a family as they encounter struggles and hardships throughout the turbulent period of the Great Leap Forward, in China. As with many time periods throughout the history of China, traditional Confucian values are present, and can be seen throughout the film. Such as one example early on in the movie in which the main character becomes angry with his wife for showing up and disrupting his gambling, and says that she is going to make him lose face. The concept of “face” within Confucian values is very important, because you must misrepresenting yourself and your family is considered a very bad offense, as seen in the rest of the film as the characters do their best to save face, trying not to look bad to their fellow neighbors or to the communist party as a whole. This is just one example of the traditional values to be found in this film, as there are many more to be seen.…
