The Monster Within Many people have characteristics that they want to change about themselves. Little things that nag and bug them all day. Although they hate them, it is hard to ignore the fact of there existence. In Frankenstein, written by Mary W. Shelley, the monster represents Victor’s confused sexual identity. Victor does not want to acknowledge its existence in fear of what people will think about him. Throughout the novel, Victor shows many signs that he is homosexual through his male interactions but the monster is where the true story is told. The monster in Frankenstein was not a separate being, but a separate personality of Victor. The monster embodies Victor’s homosexuality,
