Poverty is a social issue that causes people to look for opportunities but sometimes to lose them. Many lack clean and healthy resources, such as water, like they did during the Victorian Era.
Many children are still abused and used to work for adults or to steal, similar to the Victorian Era, and many times when being used they may become hurt physically and/or mentally. During the Victorian Era, many children where physically abused, many times as punishment or simply because people were careless and they did not like that child for some reason. Still now, many people are hurt by their own parents, family members, or others by being hit or scratched, and many more ways. Many times when people are given power over something or they are leaders in something, they take advantage of that power and use it somehow (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). If someone feels as if they have achieved a goal of getting others to respect them and they feel like they have a certain control and a high place in a hierarchy, they may use that to control those who respect that person. One may feel intimidated by that official or feel as if they had to do something for them and that they had to do everything right in order for them to feel like they have value or in order for them to not face any consequences that may be hurtful to them.
